Stephen joined the ORE Catapult in December 2013 as strategy director and currently leads the Research and Disruptive Innovation team. He has considerable experience in the low carbon arena, most notably from his previous role as director of innovation at the Carbon Trust. At the Carbon Trust he was responsible for managing a portfolio of innovation activity in offshore renewables, biomass heat and industrial energy efficiency, and managed issues relating to both government and industry.

Based in Aberdeen, he has over 25 years of offshore and subsea engineering experience. He is currently chairman of the Renewables Committee at the International Marine Contractors Association.

Deborah Greaves is Head of the School of Engineering, Professor of Ocean Engineering and Director of the COAST (Coastal, Ocean and Sediment Transport) Laboratory at the University of Plymouth, with previous appointments at UCL and the University of Bath. She has led many national and international research projects concerning offshore renewable energy (ORE) in collaboration with industrial and academic partners and in 2017 was appointed by EPSRC as the new ORE Supergen Leader.

Jan Matthiesen is passionate about wind energy. He started in the onshore sector but now is managing all offshore wind activities in the Carbon Trust, including one of Europe’s leading RD&D programme for offshore wind the Offshore Wind Accelerator, a ground-breaking collaborative RD&D programme between Carbon Trust and nine leading offshore wind developers. Jan has a degree in mechanical / electrical engineering from the University of Applied Science in Hamburg, Germany and an MBA.

Simon holds the Ørsted Chair in Renewable Energy at Durham University and has been Head of the Department of Engineering since 2017. He was the Executive Director of the Durham Energy Institute. He held University posts at Oxford (Rolls Royce funded Research Fellow) and then Leicester (Lecturer) Universities. He held senior management/technical leadership positions in R&D and then Alstom’s Steam Turbine Retrofit Business. Simon is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
